Beginning

How did Goxoa start?

A frustration became the best beer in Europe.

Jonathan Dubois is a Paris Dauphine graduate who spent seven years training for triathlons at a high amateur level. In June 2022, during a training camp in the Pyrenees for the Altriman XXL, it was hot, his friends had beers, and he wanted one too. He reached for an alcohol-free alternative and was disappointed, again. He looked around, saw the same frustration in the athletes around him, and decided someone had to fix it. A year of development later, Goxoa launched in June 2023. Six months after that, it was named the best alcohol-free beer in Europe.

What does Goxoa stand for?

Performance and pleasure. No compromise.

The name is Basque for "delicious." Pronounced "Gochoa" — the x sounds like ch, which Jonathan says sounds a bit like opening a beer. Goxoa is built on one conviction: athletes deserve better than a bad-tasting substitute. Beer with alcohol is never right for recovery. But the alcohol-free alternatives were missing quality, taste, and pleasure. Goxoa refuses to accept that trade-off. Sport and beer. Performance and pleasure. No compromise.

Has Goxoa won awards?

Best in Europe at six months. Best in the world at two years.

Two awards, in its first two years of existence. In April 2023, just six months after launch, the Blonde won best alcohol-free beer in Europe at the European Beer Challenge in London, competing against entries from 39 countries. In 2024, it went further: best pale alcohol-free beer in the world at the World Beer Awards. Jonathan's reaction on winning the first time: "C'est quoi ce truc de fou?" The product speaks for itself. Featured on France Bleu, ToulÉco Montpellier, and Hérault Tribune. Endorsed by Quentin Lecoeuche (Ligue 2, FC Valenciennes) and Thomas Acquier (Aviron Bayonnais rugby).

Is Goxoa really alcohol-free?

Yes. Both Goxoa beers are 0.4% ABV, below the 0.5% threshold at which beer is legally classified as alcohol-free across Europe. At 0.4%, the alcohol content is comparable to a glass of orange juice.

What does isotonic mean?

Isotonic means the drink has the same concentration of dissolved substances as your blood, allowing it to be absorbed quickly and efficiently. Isotonic drinks deliver water, carbohydrates, and minerals simultaneously, which is why sports drinks are formulated this way. Goxoa applies the same principle to beer: proper hydration that actually works, without the alcohol.

How does Goxoa brew without alcohol?

Goxoa uses a brewing process that naturally keeps alcohol at minimal levels without dealcoholisation. The base is brewed from natural ingredients only: water, malt, hops, and yeast. No sugars, no sweeteners, no preservatives are added. Functional ingredients (minerals, vitamins, yarrow extract) are incorporated after brewing.

Is Goxoa suitable during exercise?

The Blonde and IPA are designed for post-effort recovery rather than during exercise. Their isotonic formula supports rehydration after training. Goxoa is not a mid-workout drink, it's the reward that also works.

What is the shelf life of Goxoa beer?

Goxoa beers typically last one to two years from brewing. The best before date on each can is a quality indicator, not a safety cutoff. We only ship cans with plenty of shelf life remaining, so what arrives at your door is fresh.
